My Story

To me, family is everything. I have 9 nephews and 5 nieces which means a lot of practice with babies and supporting families. I have grown up getting to see what the postpartum journey can look like and was under the impression before I had my first child that it would be a breeze.

I was wrong.

When I gave birth to my first child, I prepped and planned for everything except for the postpartum journey. When my daughter was born, Postpartum Mood Disorders were not as openly talked about as they are today. I really had no idea that what I was experiencing in those first few weeks was not just due to serious sleep deprivation, but I was in fact experiencing postpartum anxiety and depression. This is a part of my own journey that I never could have imagined would be used now to help support others who may experience Postpartum Mood Disorders too.

Working with infants and children has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up with 5 siblings and my momma ran a busy home daycare that I helped with. As a teenager I babysat and spent every summer working away from home as a camp counselor.

After high school, I took the Esthetics program and worked in the spa for a few years. Having this knowledge and experience allows me to pamper and relax new parents + their babies.

In 2007, I decided it was time to follow my dreams. I left the spa and moved to Ottawa to work as a live-in nanny. The family I supported had a young child with Down Syndrome. Working with this amazing family and their son inspired me to go back to school to take the Developmental Services Worker program. Since 2009, I have worked on and off (between having my kids) as an Educational Assistant in the school board.

After my second was born, I took a break from the school board and opened my own home daycare for 2 years.

Fast forward to June of 2020 and I am a trained Postpartum Doula serving the Ottawa area.

My Philosophy

When I was younger, I often heard my momma and her friends talking about how it truly takes a village to raise children. I want to be a part of your village. I want to help you with the daily aspects of care for your newborn. You might need help with baby laundry, breastfeeding support, bottle feeding, meal prep or walking the dog (your firstborn) so you can have that extra time to bond with your little one. Maybe you have multiples and just need a second pair of experienced hands. Whatever it is that you need, I would love to help. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have regarding my services. I look forward to helping you create your village!

"She is a wealth of information when it comes to postpartum and truly cares deeply for the families she works with".
- Keira Jane
"I didn't even know what a doula was before my mother-in-law found Lyz and I'm so glad that she did. She makes you feel very comfortable from the start. She was so great at making sure I was taken care of just as much as my baby. She even knew I needed things before I did".
